Demystifying feminism: what it is—and what it isn’t

Desmitificando el feminismo lo que sí es, y lo que no

Feminism is not the opposite of sexism. Although this statement may seem obvious to some, it remains one of the most important to repeat. One of the most persistent and most convenient myths is the idea that feminism is simply “sexism in reverse.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

Sexism is an ideology that legitimizes domination, violence, and inequality. Feminism, by contrast, is a social, political, and cultural movement that seeks equality, justice, and social transformation. Its goal is not to reverse hierarchies or replace one form of oppression with another, but to dismantle the structures that create and sustain oppression. Confusing the two is not an innocent mistake it is a way of stripping a historic struggle of its meaning.
